Oriane Guiziou-Lamour is a third-year doctoral candidate. She studies the relationship between gender, sexuality, and power, from eighteenth century French libertine novel (Sade, Boyer d’Argens, Nerciat) to modern and contemporary depictions of sadomasochism in erotic literature written by women (Anne Desclos, Catherine Robbe-Grillet).

Her dissertation takes the eighteenth century tradition of libertine novels as a starting point. If male authors are so obsessed with creating a feminine “je”, a woman narrator, and if libertine novels overwhelmingly focus on women talking about sexuality, how come there are no women libertine authors? How can one explain this missing corpus? Was there such a thing as a libertine genre written by women? Her hypothesis is the birth of a “roman érotico-sentimental” at the turn of eighteenth and nineteenth century, which led her to study the works of authors such as Suzanne Giroust de Morency, Félicité de Choiseul-Meuse and Elizabeth Guénard.

She is a member of the Laboratoire des Imaginaires, a student association located in Rennes (France) which promotes academic research on « cultures of the Imaginary » (science fiction, fantasy, videogames, graphic novels/comic books…) by organizing colloquia and reading events.

She is also a Research Assistant for the film project Big Mouth, directed by Bremen Donovan and Nomi Dave.
